Question
I'm a 58 year old man who desires to workout at home using my stationary bike and pilates (if you know what that is). How much time should I spend doing the bike and at what speed (80,90,100)? And, should I do pilates right after the bike or wait a little bit until the sweat dries on my body?
Answer
Congratulations! It is wonderful to hear that you are staying active and incorporating cardio, toning and stretch. Yes, Pilates is a wonderful workout and can help align, strengthen, tone and stretch the body. You can workout in either order. If you ride the bike first then you will have a great warm-up. A warm-up of 5-10 minutes is sufficient. Your speed will vary. You might want to start at 70 rpm's and then increase every few minutes. As you become more fit and if time permits you can ride longer. When you complete your ride cool down on or off the bike by slowing down. You can also walk around for a few minutes if you became winded. Towel off and get some water before your Pilates session.
