Question
I haven't been on a bike since I was a kid. I would love to get back to biking. What kind of bike should I buy? There are so many brands and types. HELP!
Answer
Answered by Ken Snowden. Decide what type of riding you will be doing ( on road and long distance) or (off road, mountain and bike path) or combination of both. Road bikes will be much lighter, custom fitted and more expensive- $700 - $5000. Off road bikes are heavier and durable for negotiating gnarly terrain. Prices are very reasonable if you shop around- $300- $1000. A few still cost in the $2000 range that are very race specific. If you want to go both on and off road, a hybrid is a road bike with wider tires and lower gears for going off road and on. The prices should be simialr to mountain bikes. A quality bike shop should be able to get you positioned and on the road.
