| Question |
| How high should I place my saddle? |
| Answer |
| Answered by Ken Snowden.
Seat height effects your power to the pedal, your spin, your balance, and riding comfort. Let's look at the turn of the pedal as a clock. If your leg is completely straight at the bottom of the stroke or 6 o'clock your seat is too high and you are beyond your power position. There is little or no power generation between 5 and 6 o'clock. It is dead space in the pedal stroke. Your knee should be at a 20 to 25 degree bend at this point and recovering (lifting) for the next pedal stroke. If it is too low, you can't lift your leg, there is too much pressure on your knees and you can't breath properly because you are too crunched up. The higher the seat, the better the breathing. |
